Land and Water Management are crucial to make farming more resilience against climate change, more sustainable and more profitable. In my research and teaching I always combine MODELS with MEASUREMENTS to help MAN.
Land and water management interventions aim at optimizing soil, water and plant nutrients. Rainfed systems in semi-arid zones are very complex and models can help to explore options for improvement. However, input data for models are often absent and measurements are time consuming and expensive. And, although models are helpful, the largest challenge is to understand farmers and to help them making profit.
What can I do for you? Since my retirement in 2012 I continue with consultancies in International Land and Water Management for short and mid-term missions, project evaluations and research proposal assessments. I have a preference for Africa but other continents are in my domain of experience. My professional fields follow from the descriptions and examples given in MODELS, MEASUREMENTS and MAN. Dutch is my native language, and in addition I am fluent in English, I can work in French, German and Bahasa Indonesia environments.
